Cat
Throughout time the lives of cats have been many and varied. The Cat has been held sacred or in high esteem during the Egyptian era, then was demonised when Christianity took over Europe. Many were tortured and executed along with the witches during the Burning Times. The return of the Cat as a familiar to humanity came when it was realised that the depletion of the feline population had been responsible for the infestation of rats which carried the fleas, which carried the Black Death - the Great Plague - which spread across Europe killing a third of the population. Cat energy symbolises the need for balance and when a Cat comes to you, either in life or as a totem, you need to look at the balances within your immediate world.
Cats living with the world of humans are thought of as domestic, although it could be said that the Cat chooses humanity with which to live. It is often the lament of the human owner that their Cat is independent, aloof, or “rules the house” and pays little or not attention to the humans it lives with. Cats are masters of their own worlds and the appearance of Cat as a totem indicates your need to look at the mastery you have of your own life. You could ask yourself, “What choices have I made?’ “Where have I spent my time?’ Check if your choices have been timely or have you wasted time on poor choices because you have been influenced by outward connections? Cat energy suggests you be more patient to gain what you need in your life. Are you devoting time to being more patient so that you can actually pounce on what you really need? Be like the Cat who waits to pounce on the mouse or rat with good timing.
If you are giving your time to impatience and finding yourself running around to the tune of other, outward, social or conditioned influences not of your making, it is time to STOP ... and REST!
Cats will seemingly sleep up to 18 hours a day which is more about resting and lying in wait to act with decisiveness. Cat is saying to you that you have the right to know what is important to you and discern your own issues in your own time. When Cat appears it may be time to rest from the old physical grind and give yourself time to sit in the sun or a quiet place away from distracting influences. Connect to the real you. Close your eyes and go within…meditate!
Cats live in the now, not the past and not the future. If you are feeling tortured by life and social ways or conditioning, you can return to your true self by connecting with Cat and discarding the prompting of others to do otherwise. Cat Wisdom is to keep looking intuitively with your eyes on the NOW. When you watch a Cat, there is nothing wishy (future), washy (past) about its behaviour. Sitting quietly like a Cat allows intuitive awareness into your thinking and lets the Cat energy of decisiveness, directness and honesty reign with non-attachment. This unites your intuitiveness with your sensuality and spirituality. A Cat’s life is a continuum of awareness, sensitivity and timing.
When society executed the Cats in the Burning Times, they unwittingly invited in the Great Plague. The usefulness of the Cat was ignored. This is a call to you to be aware and use your intuition to hunt out the interference or nuance* which has come to you. When a Cat comes in to warm you, it is a warning time to look into the balance of the energy around you. A good time to check if you are able to heal what is to be healed and land on your feet!

Have been meaning to comment on this one. Every single day, one of our cats manages to sneak into the house. I know of a morning, CJ lets one or both in to sleep with AJ but we shoo them back out after breakfast.
ReplyDeleteGuaranteed I will get home and there will be a cat inside. A friend of mine suggested the other day that it obviously needs to be inside at the moment. Hmmm, timely perhaps?
Interesting! We really can learn so much from those around us (people, pets, wild animals etc) if we see each occurrence as being spiritually significant. The trick is to work out the significance - now that you have noticed their regular presence lately - of the cat presenting itself to you, in light of your current circumstances. Is it that the cat wants to be inside? Or is it that it is trying to highlight something to you (in the context of the text of the totem above, or something else)?
ReplyDeleteMy cat has shown me again and again that I am overlooking using my psychic abilities and intuition. Ever since I've been trying to stay active with that and put it to use (ie. the grandmother/great grandmother stuff you read about on the private blog), the cat has stayed out from under my feet and doesn't bug me during the day to come inside anymore.
Coincidence or not? Hmmmmm ;)
